As golf lore has it, the founding members first assembled in Boston, Massachusetts in the spring of 1979, not far from the birthplace of modern United States Amateur Golf, The Country Club in Brookline.
In 1913 at this same club, an unknown 20-year-old amateur by the name of Francis Ouimet defeated British Professionals Harry Vardon and Ted Ray in a final playoff to win the U.S. Open.
This victory announced the arrival of American Golf. Ouimet was the first American to win the U.S. Open. With Francis Ouimet as their inspiration, the founding members had a vision:
"To provide all golfers the opportunity to play better golf, play more often, and have more fun."
For over 25 years, in some way, shape or form, Golf Society USA has been there to provide just that.
